Geoffrey Lawrence is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at The University of Queensland, Australia. His work spans the areas of agri-food restructuring, neoliberal globalization, financialization, and food security. During his career he has raised some $15 million in research grants and has published 25 books and over 500 journal articles and book chapters. Books include: Capitalism and the Countryside: the Rural Crisis in Australia (Pluto, 1987), A Future for Regional Australia: Escaping Global Misfortune (Cambridge, 2001), Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainability (Routledge, 2010) and THINK Sociology (Pearson, 2012). His forthcoming book is Financialization, Food Systems and Rural Transformation (Earthscan/Routledge, 2018). He was President of the International Rural Sociology Association (2012-2016). He was a founding member of the Australasian Agri-food Research Network and is a Life Member of the Australian Sociological Association and an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
